Slipped or Pushed? The End of Roman Britain

The long-held theory that the Anglo-Saxon "invasion" was the catalyst that caused the failure of the Roman culture in Britain has been disputed of recent times. It has now been argued that there was an inherent weakness in Romano-British society, and that this may or may not have been exacerbated by the incursions of marauding bands. Other factors contributed to the retreat and abandonment of Rome from this distant part of the empire, and its end must be seen in the context of the wider empire and its continuing political and economic decline in the west.
