After looking at the origins of Greek theatre and the stages through which it passed we shall be concentrating on how these plays were actually presented, initially in the theatre of Dionysus at Athens.
What was the theatrical experience like for those who attended? What devices did the playwrights use to retain the attention of their audience through many hours of performance each day? What can we say about the actual staging of the plays and the stagecraft of the playwrights, directors, and performers?
