The Parade (Pompe) of the Athenian Festival of Dionysus has received little attention, largely because interest in the festival tends to focus upon the dramatic competitions.
As a result the Parade's character has been much misunderstood. A study of the contents, themes, movements and activities of the Parade explains why many Athenians considered it the highlight of the festival. It will also tell us something about the early history of drama, and comedy in particular.
Non-members are welcome. A donation of $10 per person includes entry in the lucky door prize and afternoon tea. Afternoon tea will be held in E318, Forgan Smith Building.
